Handy for tripping and staking.Ī pair of duelling pistols their gunpowder mixed with the ashes of saints and their bullet-casings tempered in holy water.Ī chittering clockwork spider -good for scouting out a vampire's tomb to see if he's really asleep or not. * My character in the Vampire Hunter D game uses a staff: one end slides off to reveal a silver spike, while the other has a retractable chain. The effect shouldn't last long say until the sunset/sunrise or until the person does something to impinge on their state of grace. Should someone drink it, their blood is as holy water, which is a nasty surprise to any vampires going for a quick snack. * As a powerful magic/holy item, a chalice (not necessarily the Grail) that turns water to wine naturally, this wine is communion worthy. * More believably, some consecrated communion host and holy water van Helsing uses it in the novel Dracula to seal up Lucy Westenra's tomb so that she might not enter it. * The Host Gun! Fires communion wafers at 10 rounds a second! Includes under-barrel Stake Launcher! Should get some anti-undead shrapnel there. Depends on how attached one is to the stake or if just wood can do it, but as a field expedient weapon: tie some silverware and stakes around a stick of dynamite, light, and throw. * Multi-crossbow? Shoots, say, five bolts at once? Sprays superheated steam out of a tank on the wearer's back. * A steam-thrower, instead of a flame thrower. Strange herbal concoctions, knowledge of the natural world. Play up his resilience and his mental powers * A corrupted churchman seeking sorcerous power. Read Zelazny's novel A Night In The Lonesome October for some darker hero ideas. He's a werewolf who's sworn to fight his base nature and other monsters. I'm playing the van Helsing equivalent, more experienced than the rest of the PCs. Right now, I'm playing in a Vampire Hunter D game using Savage Worlds. It might be worth your while to pick up the Savage Worlds book Rippers.
